Flipping Frenchman's Bay

June 22, 2017

I decided to bring my Kayak with me to work on Wednesday and headed straight to the Bay when I got off. When I launched I spooked a school of Largemouth that were hanging around in the shallow water. These fish must have seen every bait out there because they didn't have any interest in what I was putting in front of them. After giving up on them I got to work on flipping the reeds and covering some water. The water is so high in the bay that some pockets of reeds have lifted off the bottom creating a perfect hiding place for fish. It has also opened up some new water that wasn't accessible the last few years.

The action was anything but fast and the first hour resulted in a few missed fish and a lot of different baits. I ended up down sizing to a smaller 1/4 oz weight and a smaller craw, they didn't like my full sized jig. The smaller bait and slower fall helped put a few nice largemouth in the boat. Flipping this type of cover is one of my favorite ways to catch bass.

The regular launch is closed so if you're planning on launching a Kayak or Canoe this is where I put in.
