It’s been quite a while since Jake Trout and I have been on the water together. He has been redoing his kitchen and I just finished moving so we decided to take Friday off and hit G-bay for a fish therapy. We arrived to the Midland ramp with only 1 other trailer in the parking lot and a flat calm lake.
The nice thing about his time of year, especially a weekday, is that you pretty much have the water to yourself.
We weren’t really sure where the fish would be with the warm weather so we just started covering water and fishing everything we could. We thought that the largemouth might be tucked up under docks and lily pads but could hardly find a fish up shallow. We adjusted to deep drops with scattered weeds in the 8-12 feet of water and ended up finding some nice fish. Most of the fish came off jigs with a few falling for jerk baits.
We had a little 3 fish tournament among ourselves just to keep it interesting, I’m proud to say that I won a free ice cream!!
We are going on a 3 day musky trip this weekend so I hope we will be adding another report very soon! The weather is going to turn so at least we won’t be sun burnt.
