Musky opener - Otonabee river

June 3, 2018

This will be my third year targeting musky from my Yak and I would say it the most exciting fish I catch. (salmon are a very close second) One of the reason is that there is soooo much down time between fish that when you actually hook one its complete panic/excitement. Last year wasn't my best for musky overall and I missed the few that I had a change at hooking, I was hoping 2018 season would be better. With that, I headed to the Otonabee River in Peterborough and launched in a section that I have fished many times. This section has some great weed beds next to deep water that usually hold a few fish and, they were right where they should have been.

A buddy and I worked the weeds for almost 2 hours without seeing a thing, but, at 12:30 I hooked my fish and 2 seconds later my buddy hooked his! Once we landed them and got back to fishing, we broke one more off and had another nice follower. Someone flicked the "lets feed" switch for an hour then switched it off again. That being said, I am very happy with the results.

Great weather & company = successful opener!
